CENTRAL SALIDA REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE

(C.S.R.C.)

MINUTES OF MEETING

February 1, 2000

Chair Cathy Kirby called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.

  1. Review of Minutes from last meeting.

2. Railroad Crossings - Cathy Kirby gave an update on the railroad crossings for Salida. Union Pacific has slated to install high speed rail and concrete crossings throughout Central California. Our crossings through downtown will be part of this project. The final schedule has not been released yet however the project is scheduled for a 6 month term, beginning in mid-March of 2000. In speaking with Union Pacific and Stanislaus County, Cathy informed both that the Town & Country Fair is scheduled for mid-August and our annual Safety Fair for October. These dates will be included in the construction schedule. Safety at the crossings was discussed and Cathy will contact Union Pacific regarding an education program for the community and particularly our youth.

  1. Sheriff Update - Sheriff Deputy Louis Galindez informed us that there has been only one property crime in our area, however a portion on the east side in the new housing area has been victim to a rash of crimes. The Sheriff’s office is working diligently to resolve the issue.

  1. Town & Country Fair - Denice Martinez updated us on the plans for the fair and farmer’s market. August 19th is the planned date with a possiblity that the hours will expand due to a great response. Over 30 booths have been scheduled to date and music is being coordinated with several area performers giving a variety of musical interests a venue for showcasing their talents.

  1. Town Watch - We only have one group in the downtown area and this is a very important tool to ensure public safety and security. Deputy Galindez encouraged us all to become involved and attend the next meeting at the Sheriff’s substation on March 15th at 7 p.m.

  1. Other Topics - Elvia Lopez updated us on the Salida Community Plan issue. Since much of the downtown is comprised of Hispanic residents, this information often does not reach them. Since the plan involves all of Salida, it was important to let our community members know what is proposed.

Park - Denice Martinez discussed the possibility of obtaining some recreational equipment and storing it for check out at the Sheriff’s office for use at the park. Currently there is no available storage at the park for this purpose.

A street light was reported out on Horton. Cathy will contact MID to have it replaced.

7. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 7, 2000.

Meeting adjourned at 6:450p.m.
